Have you ever been somewhere kind of bogus on vacation and thought “OK, I know I am basically in the cultural asshole of MARS, but maybe something awesome will happen like Maiden will come to town,” and then you spend the rest of the trip trying to properly visualize what Ed Force One would look like landing at the Athens international airport so the Secret will work in your favor? Well, if that Martian asshole happens to be Beijing in the next week, then for once you’re in luck.
Elk Gallery,
the visual-arts wing of Vice fiction contributor and Far East
correspondent Jocko Weyland has opened an annex in the Chinese capital
to display some of the recent work of French ex-pat artist Artus de
Lavilléon. We blew it on posting this before last night’s opening, but
if you’re in town you should still stop by during the day to check out
Lavilléon’s illustrations, which have a sort of awesome,
Pettibon-meets-all-those-cool-Situationist-cartoons vibe, as well as
his whole collection of found Chinese art. Click here for how to get there and what-all.
