Luksodrome is the sex-infused spawn of boyfriend and girlfriend design team, Filip Ziebo and Chloe Feinberg. Filip is a photographer and illustrator – you can see his stuff here – and Chloe used to work in the porn industry, editing, not acting. Looking at sex all day clearly made its mark because most of Luksodrome’s t-shirts are dripping in some sort of reference to genitalia. We shot their guys t-shirts, but they also have a couple of designs exclusively for girls that aren’t as likely to prompt weird looks while you’re going about your daily business.

VICE: Hey Chloe. Tell me about Luksodrome.
Chloe Feinberg: Well, it’s the t-shirt company my Polish boyfriend and I put together. We actually made the name from the Polish word luksus, which means luxury, and then just added the drome on.
What happened to the luxury angle? I don’t see any cashmere or diamonds.
Ha ha. Well, yeah, that was the original idea.
And then it all turned into boners and babes?
Yeah. Well, we just thought that Poland isn’t exactly a luxurious place, so the idea of having those two things together just kind of worked.
So who does what?
Well, my boyfriend’s an illustrator and I studied art and stuff as well, so we’ll both come up with the initial ideas. Sometimes I’ll sketch them out and then he’ll illustrate them properly and bring it to a more professional looking standard, but we’ll both make decisions on positioning and stuff like that. We’ll come up with loads of designs and then narrow them down, but a lot of mine didn’t make the cut this time.

Was it your idea to give all the guys on the Beverly Hills 902010 t-shirt erections?
No, that was actually Filip’s. He’s a bit obsessed with the really ugly one, what’s her name?
Tori Spelling?
Yeah, yeah, Tori Spelling! He just hates her so much and kinds of talks about it quite a bit. Also, when communism fell in Poland, Beverly Hills 90210 was one of the first shows they played. So, I think for Filip, the fact that there were suddenly teenagers making out in hot tubs and having sex on the beach and stuff like that made quite an impression. But yeah, we get influenced by all sorts of stuff because we watch a lot of crap on YouTube and that tends to get in there somehow, you know?
Oh yeah, like the Lady Gag Ass ‘Anus’ one on your blog. Is that going to work its way in there somewhere?
Well, we did actually come up with a couple of Lady Gaga ones this time, but we decided not to do them. Maybe in the next collection.
Probably for the best. So, are dicks and sex a pretty fundamental part of your design process?
Yeah. You know, it’s funny you say that, because I actually used to be a porn editor. My boyfriend and I think in very similar ways and we think about sex quite a lot, I guess. I used to work for a female pornographer, editing her stuff from hardcore films into softcore films, so I’m sure that managed to lodge itself in my brain.
Always got porn on the mind?
Ha ha, no. It’s not like I walk around thinking about dicks all day, but it’s definitely still in there from those days.
How did you get into working in porn?
I was kind of interested in feminism and pornography when I left college and I wanted to actually make erotic films – be a porn producer or director – but that didn’t quite work out because the stuff I was working on was really pretty disgusting, as it turns out. Also, I’m not really into feminism anymore either. I find it a little bit phony and there are more interesting and important things in the world. Like dicks and vagina.

Say, is the nose on the Spaghetti Wolf t-shirt supposed to look like a dick?
No, actually. It’s funny, a lot of people ask that, but it’s actually a werewolf. It’s strange, the first time I wore it, two people asked me if it was a dick, just because the noodly design looks a bit like pubes or something, but we didn’t intend for it to be that way. Saying that, it’s actually worked out quite well that way.
The Tampones shirt is amazing too. Is that because The Ramones always seemed like a menstrual, pissed off band to you?
No, that was kind of a comment on, like, the Black Flag t-shirt that everyone wears, which normally says that the person really likes the logo but never actually listens to Black Flag. So it was just a bit of a sarky reference to that, really. You know, in fashion nowadays, people wear stuff that they don’t really know the meaning of at all and everything that did have meaning has kind of been bastardized a bit. Anyway, without being so serious, that’s kind of what we were thinking about. Although, I guess seeing as we were taking the piss out of it, it almost makes us even worse.
How about the Natural Man shirt, is the guy based on anyone in particular?
You know what? I have a collection of 70s porn mags that I bought off eBay a while ago – Playgirl mags, stuff like that – and that was actually an advertisement for a book that I found in there. The guy was naked in the original image, so I just put some Speedos on him.
Oh, so do you prefer older porn over all the new stuff, then?
Well, we don’t actually watch too much porn, really, we just tend to get influences from everywhere. But yeah, I have all those old magazines so we occasionally dip into them and there isn’t really anything new around that’s good. The industry kind of fucked up and there’s nothing creative going on, which is kind of why I’m doing an MA in animation—I actually want to make something good, as opposed to…
Girls getting gagged and fucked?
Ha ha, exactly.
One more thing: why t-shirts?
Well, there was nothing around that we really wanted to wear ourselves and we had a think about what us and our friends would want to wear. We didn’t want to follow what was on-trend particularly. Like, ‘Oh, Aztec stuff is in, so let’s do that’, I just find that annoying. Also, Filip’s been designing for other t-shirt companies for the past 12 or so years and I think he got fed up of them always choosing the safe, cutesy option, and them messing with his designs, so we just thought we’d do it ourselves. Another reason is that it’s a good way to create a platform for our own illustrations, as well as bringing other people in. We have a lot of friends in Poland and it’s quite hard for them to get their stuff out there, so in the future we’re thinking of getting them involved.
