Raised by gypsies and a fast talker, Kingsley left home at 19 to study mental health at a university in London. He was the first to go to school in his family. Since then, he has worked in psychiatric wards in Maudsley Hospital and is full of wild tales that go like, “The work was pretty jank and some nutty bird put her baby in the oven and burnt the poor thing crisp, then some other woman put de-icer in her husband’s curry to have a claim up on his life insurance, but instead of killing him, he went blind and deaf, no shit.” Now he travels taking photos of weirdos taking a nap.
I use to think photographs of passed-out bums were a tired subject until I got Kingsley’s zine, Zonked #4. He started the series at the beginning of last summer and took pictures in New York, London, and Herne Bay (where he is from).

Zonked is 40 pages and comes tied in string and sealed with pine scented wax stamped with a K.

The imagery is supergrimy sleepy-city style, yet the zine quality itself is so fine!

Asleep in the park…

and after a movie.

Don’t drink the punch…

or you’ll never wake up.

Sneaky snake slumber…

the street is my bed.

This bench is my bed.

A power nap before the train comes…

some shut eye so I don’t get bums.

Don’t give a shit, just gotta snooze, now check out my shoes.
If you want to see more of his work, his site kingsleyfill.com. Also, Kingsley is in a group show thats coming up at NYU’s Gallatin Galleries that opens on Feb 19th. The show is called Technology Show. Goodnight.
