Back in 2011 designers Takahiro Yamaguchi and So Kanno created the Senseless Drawing Bot, a robotic device slash street artist. Except this street artist performed his wild styles in a gallery space and just so happened to be autonomous, moving around on wheels spray painting the wall in a disjointed, random manner dictated by his swinging, mechanical arm.
And now his creators have made a second iteration of this haphazard graffitist, called Senseless Drawing Bot #2. In V.1 the paintings were powered by the pendulum nature of the robot’s arm, which was driven by Arduino, but with this new model it’s water which powers his creations. A high pressure water jet sprays the walls with paint, pulled up and down by Arduino, and the momentum of this is what creates the resulting patterns.
