I grew up in a city that, to most Indonesians, is a joke. I don’t know why people hate it so much. Bekasi is amazing. I love the traffic, the illegal midnight races, the smell of factory fumes, and the brothels that line the highway, their beer advertisement shining bright when I drive by on my way home.

People say Bekasi is the most isolated city on Earth. But to me that’s paradise.
