Daisuke Tanabe’s “Pinebee” is Breakbeat Spoonman

This is some artsy shit. Daisuke Tanabe’s new album Floating Underwater is fifteen tracks of sample-based sonic experimentation. The Tokyo/London resident was part of RBMA’s 2010 class (Along with Tokimonsta and Kidkanevil), and the elevated perspective of his music is immediately evident on the record – It zags everywhere from spaced out beat music to ambient to chiptune.

This track, “Pinebee,” is one of the more up-front of the lot. In it, Tanabe re-arranges jungle samples with a sky of manipulated sounds. If you’re into smart-person music, give this whole record a listen. It might be tough to get your Melbourne shuffle on, but at least your ears will be dancing.
