This week was nuts—I started writing this post with a list of 15 pins and patches and had to narrow it down. Then I realized that I write these every week, and there’s plenty of time to give everyone their slice of the recognition pie. In this post, you’ll see a solid cross-section of pins, as always—bootlegs, nostalgia, art history, and good ol’ fashioned original design. Originality? Shocking, I know. Pin Boy
No Face is one of those characters memorable enough to be instantly recognizable by anyone with an internet connection. It’s also just so aesthetically pleasing that it looks great as a pin, even if you’re entirely unaware of where it’s from. Wearing this one is a win-win; you appeal to the ever-coveted Miyazaki crowd and the common pleb. Boom.

Paper Flour Ink
Most of us pin companies just make pins. I, like many others, operate my business out of my apartment. But every once in awhile, usually while I’m writing these roundups, I stumble upon a legitimate brick and mortar business (gasps). Paper Flour Ink is one of those. Their website is full of enough beautiful cake photography to make even the most hardened fitness devotees want to break edge for a cheat day. Buy a macaroon pin; support a good damn bakery.

Simp Pins
Simp Pins does tasteful bootlegs. Those used to be my specialty, but half of me was living in fear of potential legal ramifications. Simp Pins did a better version of the Doodle Bob pin I did back in October. They’ve breached the nostalgia barrier with a vintage Nokia phone, and now they have an amazing Homer pin.

Tough Times Press
This trio looks excellent together. Tough Times Press is one of the top pin makers in the game. It’s run by really talented designers who have worked for respected brands you’ve definitely heard of (hint: they rhyme with “Shishka”). These are 3D pins, which differ obviously from the usual enamel pins you see around. They’re more difficult to design and manufacture, and I’ve rarely seen them done as tastefully as this. Grab ’em before someone else does.
