It’s Labor Day weekend, which means beach-ing, BBQing, and contemplating the rights earned by generations of labor activists who fought for the livable working conditions we know and love today. While iconic labor activists like Eugene V. Debs and Mary Harris Jones helped secure safety and fairness in the factory, automation has shifted the focus of America’s work ethic to the office.
Unpaid internships, riduculously long hours, and inhumane environments are plaguing tech and media offices throughout the country, so this Labor Day we’ll examine the biggest icon of office life—the desktop computer—through the psyche of GIF artists like Scorpion Dagger, AL Crego, and Carl Burton.
