On the blog this week we watched Taeyoon Choi hack Europe’s largest IKEA store, were enthralled by a Japanese artist’s digitally painted portraits of loneliness, put our art-spotting skills to the test, had a tech Q&A with Memo Akten, and looked at the origins of the universe.

And on the web, this took place…

· The trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus—the prequel to Alien—is out. Let’s hope its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.

· Angry Birds get their own Christmas light game. The world rejoices.

· “Unfolding like an animated modern Botticelli painting” is this projection mapping on a bridge. No surface is safe.

· Here’s the year in 3D printing.

· And remember, have yourselves a merry robot Christmas.
