Insult to Injury: Week Ending 12/6 with Domenic Romeo

Every week, the Noisey editors take a break from eating bacon, talking about various kinds of bacon, and then trying not to regurgitate said bacon to compile the stuff we’ve been jamming to all week. This week’s special guest is Domenic Romeo of A389 Recordings and former member of every hardcore band ever like Pulling Teeth.

Occultist – “Iron Distort”
This week, I’ve been obsessed with Occultist from Richmond, VA. I remembered liking some demo tracks I checked out way back but forgot about them until I saw Noisem was playing a show with them. We were hanging at the warehouse listening to ’80s KISS and I was reminded to check them out. I’m glad I did because it’s the one of the most blistering metal bands I’ve heard in a while. Some of the most vicious female vocals I’ve ever heard. I hate the term “blackenedcrust” or whatever subgenre people want to blacken…it just makes me think of burnt pizza which sucks but MAN this band rips. Check out their new LP ‘Death Sigilis.’

Pleasure Leftists – 12″
I know it’s boring to hear about all of these sub-sub-sub-Joy Divison worshippers, but before you hit the “Back” button or “Page Down” check out Pleasure Leftists. Falling more in line with recent favorites like Masshysteri and Terrible Feelings, Haley Morris’s croon propels this Cleveland band’s epic forward motion, dipping into darkwave-y post punk for the duration of the release. Its definitely not what you’d expect from two guys that also served in the brutal hardcore band 9 Shocks Terror, but no less enriching. Check out their latest 12″ above as well as their appearance on the latest Deranged comp underneath that.
