Insult to Injury: Week Ending 1/3

Every week, the Noisey editors get together and compile everything they’ve been listening to over the last week. But not this week. This week, most editors stayed home because they are afraid of blizzards and killer snowmen. But two brave editors came in just to eat Pop Tarts and geek out about the Marked Men all day. (Guess which.)

Last night, I awaited my impending, snow-based death by finishing up the remainder of Grand Theft Auto 5. When I beat the game at 2 a.m. (I chose Ending C, I am not an animal), the song “The Set Up” by Favored Nations played. That song is not about snow, but it is very good. The song “Snowblind” by Black Sabbath is not about snow, either, but it is about cocaine, and that is a thing that is also white.

Nicki Minaj – “Boss Ass Bitch”
If you’ve said Nicki disappeared over the last year, you weren’t doing your job right—as you’ll see on my Best of 2013 list, she slayed every guest verse, even on a Carly Rae Jepsen song. On Dec. 30—you know, so you wouldn’t forget her and of course, to throw a little shade at Drake and all of those eagerly anticipating “Trophies”—she dropped a remix to the viral PTAF song, “Boss Ass Bitch.” It’s venomous; she may possibly rap pussy 100 times, and her cadence is reminiscent of “I Get Crazy” but much more crafted—and of course, the bridge will remind you of the greatness of “Stupid Hoe.” And as expected, men everywhere shuddered at the idea of a woman rapping about sleeping with her cheating man’s best friend (and talking about her pussy) and suggested women go back to listening to “Drunk In Love.” Why? Because men can be very basic. But, Nicki is on album mode, so 2014 is off to a great start.

The Marked Men – “A Little Time”
Fuck snow. I didn’t want to leave the house this morning. Or if I did, I wanted to go out just to build a snowman and then kick him right in the snowdick (or snowdicks). But then I remembered: Oh hey, today is the day we are announcing the first NYC show by THE MOTHER FUCKING MARKED MEN in eight goddamn years. Then I practically ran to work barefoot because life is so rad and we put on the best shows.

The Marked Men – “Right Here with You”
Holy shit. I’ve only seen The Marked Men in their home state of Texas, and I am beyond stoked to have helped bring these guys to NYC (shout out to Saint Vitus in Brooklyn and of course the homie Dan Ozzi). Eight years is a long time between appearances, so February 7th can’t come soon enough. Here’s a choice one for the unfamiliar.
