Welcome to Insult to Injury, the place where the Noisey editors gather every week to talk about what they’ve been listening to. This week, we’ve all been working very hard at figuring out how we can get in on some of that sweet, sweet Valentine’s Day sex tonight. We’ll probably just stop by CVS and pick up whatever cheap ass candy they’ve got in their seasonal aisle. Today’s special guest is Jason Reece of the band …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Candy Hearts. Or Dead, sorry. Still thinking about candy.
Not in the Face – “Brass Tacks”
Not in the Face from Austin is this totally homo-erotic biker band that has this amazing rock video “Brass Tacks” that you have to see. Basically a rowdy rock band with a bit of a Replacements vibe, but “Brass Tacks” is a little more out there and the video has a great sense of humor.

Lil Kim – “Not Tonight” Happy Valentine’s Day. Let’s keep this short because we know that most of you can’t keep your dicks in your pants today—and ladies, we’re like halfway over with this day. This is the indisputable anthem of Valentine’s Day—flowers die, chocolates make you fat, going out to dinner is literally hell on days like today. There’s nothing more romantic you can do for your girl than going down on her for an extended period of time. Here’s your soundtrack.

Thumpers – “Unkinder (A Tougher Love)”
Even though this video makes my eyes bleed and my brain fall out of my left ear (this says more about what I ingested last night, really) I have to give ultimate love and hugs to Thumpers. Nice work Sub Pop for signing this London duo and releasing their debut album, Galore, this week. “Unkinder (A Tougher Love)” is hands down my favorite song on the record because it sounds like JOY. “Come, unkinder/Shake the buildings into piles!”

De La Soul – “Stakes Is High”
One of J.Dilla’s earliest creations, “Stakes is High” not only marked De La Soul’s seismic shift, but also a new era for the Native Tongues trio. Gone were the over the top skits, goofy-fun rhymes, and patchwork-beats courtesy of Prince Paul, replaced with hard-hitting beats and conscious lyricism. The LP is a burner overall (and introduced the world to Mos Def), but the title track is an absolute classic of late 90s hip hop. Get familiar.

T-Pain – “Royals” (Cover)
Okay so if I’m being honest, I haven’t really paid attention attention to T-Pain since he sang the best hook on the planet (“Good Life”), but whatever, that doesn’t matter, because he just did the best cover of “Royals” ever. I plan on playing this at least 37 times this weekend, and I will sip Crown Royale while I do so. Happy President’s Day, motherfuckers.
