Although it only went up three days ago and weighs in at a fleeting 22 seconds, the YouTube clip “Baby LED Light Suit Halloween Costume Preview” has effectively gone viral: 8 million views, excessive news coverage, and it’s only a matter of time until parody videos pop up.
For those who missed it, the cute clip includes two parents giggling in the dark as their baby runs towards them wearing an LED-clad costume manipulated to make the child look like an animated stick figure.

Halloween is only a week away, and we should certainly expect a few interpretations of this little, viral gem. The Creators Project staff are LED experts, and we dug around the web to pick some other LED costumes, in case the stick figure trope is too over-saturated for your taste.
LED Jellyfish
This costume was made in 2007 and was featured on the Discovery Channel Canada because it’s pretty damn awesome. Spongebob from the future, right? This costume is ideal for any underwater themed parties (these happen more than expected — I went to something called Deep Sea Disco a few weeks ago and I would have killed to have had this costume at the time). The creator even wrote instructions about how to make this luminous piece of ingenuity.
LED Fairy Wings
If you ever imagined what Tinker Bell would look like at Burning Man–pixie dust would definitely be involved, to say the least–then here’s the best LED-infused costume to capture such a weird thought. Like the LED Jellyfish, this costume is easy to craft and Instructables.com includes quick steps to make this getup a reality.
LED Extreme Sports Bros
Last year, The Creators Project wrote about this epic video made by filmmaker Jacob Sutton where he captured snowboarder William Hughes cutting through fresh, French Alp powder in an LED, glow-in-the-dark suit. Design expert, John Spatcher, made the suit using LED strips powered by batteries after passive reflectors using a tracking mobile light source failed to properly light this shredder.
Similarly, this video (accompanied by cheesy EDM bangers) focuses on surfers wearing LED bodysuits as they crush waves in the dark. So for Halloween this year, why not be a glow-in-the-dark extreme sports bros? Costume requirements include: wetsuits, snowsuits, some type of board, and ideally a can of Redbull or Monster. It’s as if you’re an alien Shaun White.
iPhone Controlled LED suits
Every year I see someone dressed as Green Man, the simplistically brilliant costume from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, but this suit can be enhanced for 2013. The bodysuit can become next-level with this iPhone controlled LED suit that pairs Arduino with a WiFi-enabled app to make lights dance and move in patterns over the clothing. This costume also includes an accelerometer and microphone for those who really want to commit. The original Green Man costume will always hold a place in our nylon hearts, though.
If none of these LED costumes caught your eye, then we have a few more suggestions below. It will be hard to out-cute the LED stick figure baby, but these techy costumes will certainly make you the center of attention on Halloween this year.
