I know what you’re expecting: some kind of moralizing about the dangers of football with a helmet vs. without one. And that’s true. It’s scary out there in CTE-woke-land. But this video of Stafford getting hit without his helmet is nothing if not fascinating.

We rarely get a chance to see these ‘warriors’ go at it without their full armor on, so it’s easy to dehumanize them. But this hard-ass hit—taken by Philadelphia’s Connor Barwin on Detroit’s QB Matt Stafford after Fletcher Cox ripped it off—is a crystal-clear window into the raw human nature under the mask.
