Stéphane Deschênes knows that a pastel-toned music video of an oddly dancing Degrassi star isn’t the only cultural good worth celebrating in the world of rap music these days. Playfully nicknamed Damn Kids, the Toronto-based trap maker’s Northmix is an irresistible musical recap of the year’s hip hop heavyweights.
“I wanted to showcase the sounds I’m into,” Deschênes shares. “It’s an idea of the direction my music is heading towards.” Featuring the wails of adorned cross-dresser Young Thug; the poetic angst of Kanye West protege Travis Scott; and not one, but two tracks from the mixtape that temporarily heightened Drake’s street credibility, “What a Time to Be Alive,” Deschênes fifty-minute mix is one bad ass bundle of bouncy beats.

And if childhood hoodlums-turned-multimillion-dollar rap moguls just isn’t your cup of tea, Deschênes’ inclusion of his marching band-meets-Sasha Fierce original tracks should be more than enough to fill the void in your supercilious musical heart.
