Let’s be honest: Lincoln doesn’t have a particularly rich musical history. Nevertheless, the oft-forgotten East Midlands city is where Bad Ideas were raised, which means they capture the ennui that everyone who didn’t grow up in a major metropolitan area will be all too familiar with. Borrowing their name from Alkaline Trio lyrics, Bad Ideas are taking the transatlantic melodic punk route in a British direction, like Basement and Moose Blood before them.
We’re premiering their new track “Give Up” below, which combines the delightfully nasal vocal tendencies of Manchester Orchestra, Hot Water Music’s melodic sensibilities, and The Manic Street Preachers’ ear for the anthemic. In short: it’s a banger.
