Premiere: Listen to PCP Eagles’ ‘The Ballad of Stuart Young’

The last we heard from PCP Eagles they were deep into their anti-consumerism tirade/agenda with their debut EP I Hate the Mall. As well as hating on suburban shopping centres the album contained songs about Ric Flair and life in small town New Zealand.

The Kiwi punks are back with a new single “The Ballad of Stuart Young” which testament to the band’s tight camraderie, is an ode/tribute to their drummer.

Taken from an upcoming album, the song captures the same emotion that was found on their debut – frenzy. Yeah, so frenzy isn’t a real emotion but then, neither are those dragons on your pyjamas.

We caught up with the bassist Tom Anderson to find out the latest updates from PCP Eagles HQ.

Noisey: You are a bit of an Auckland hardcore supergroup and have other projects on the go including running a live venue and recording bands. What is it about PCP that gets you specifically, that all those other things don’t?
Tom Anderson: PCP is an extension of a lot of the other things we do, as we work, party and kick douchebags out of the Wine Cellar together outside of the band. Travelling around, playing shows with your best mates, writing the music we wanted to as teenagers but weren’t able to is a very necessary outlet for keeping sane and staying rad.

Tell us about Stuart Young?
Stu is our drummer who has spent the better part of the last few years bouncing between Melbourne, Berlin and my couch in Auckland living out of a kids backpack with a day-glo dinosaur on it. Total badass.

Have you been to the mall since your 2012 EP I Hate The Mall?
I had to change money on a Saturday for a show I was working on and got sent to St Lukes Mall. I ended up yelling at the banker and setting fire to everyone. They didn’t change my money.

PCP Eagles launch ‘Ballad of Stuart Young” May 23 in Auckland at the Whammy Bar.
