Real 80s babies will know that long before the likes of Alanis Morissette was getting stuck in ear canals across Canada, the culprit was likely “Skinnamarink,” the theme song to 1984’s The Elephant Show by Sharon, Lois & Bram. As a trio, the three singers provided some of the most joyous tunes to Canadian children everywhere. Sadly today, at the age of 78, Lois Lilienstein has passed away.

Although she retired back in the early 2000s, Lilienstein never turned her back on music, continuing to perform at various benefit concerts over the years. Furthermore, along with her amigos, Lilienstein was the winner of multiple Juno Awards. Although no longer with us, Lilienstein will always be remembered as someone who put smiles on people’s faces, and as someone who truly demonstrated how much of a positive influence music can have on a young person’s life.

So let us all remember Lilienstein by listening to “Skinnamarink.” Let us remember her in the morning, and in the afternoon. Remember in the evening, underneath the moon.
