Open iCal bros. Ultimate DJ will make its television debut early next year. Speaking to Pete Tong at IMS in Ibiza, Ultra Music Founder, and collaborator on the projector, Patrick Moxey has indicated the show will be arriving in Spring 2016.

Moxey detailed that the show is going to be directed by Hamish Hamilton, who directed Beyoncé’s halftime show at the Superbowl in 2013, and will be produced by Yahoo, Ultra Music and Cowell’s Syco. Despite the production company sounding like the evil corporation from a lesser known Christopher Reeve Superman movie, Moxey assured his audience that Syco and its partners are committed to providing “a massive global platform for new and emerging artists”.

Moxey did allude to what the programme means for electronic music and the culture that accompanies it, but seems to see the arrival of Ultimate DJ as the natural progression for dance music: “When you think about the underground music that Ultra started with 20 years ago, and how it’s now become a global lifestyle phenomenon today, to me, this is the next step in the evolution of this phenomenon.” Seems legit, from the underground, to the mainstream, to ITV+1.

The subject of Cowell’s reputation was also raised, clearly by some concerned that the man responsible for Il Divo might not be have the requisite credentials when it comes to fostering a future for electronic music. Moxey was very defensive of his new business partner, believing Cowell to be misunderstood. “In his own way, [Cowell] is an incredibly creative man. When it comes to the show, he wants it to be respectful of the space and he wants us to have the most edgy and the best artists. It’s the same way you would approach trying to have great singers, we’re going to have great electronic artists involved in the show.” The most edgy? Sick.

You will have to wait until next year for the show (and our live blog probably – who even knows?) but until then enjoy this clip that demonstrates what the show will probably look like.
