After being asked Thursday about President Donald Trump’s claim that Barack Obama tapped phones at Trump Tower, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer launched into a nearly 10-minute, nearly 1,450-word monologue, attacking the media, and quoting at length from news reports, some of which the White House had previously called “fake news.” Some on Twitter were quick to point out the news reports Spicer cited did not necessarily prove what he claimed.
Today, the heads of the Senate Intelligence Committee echoed their counterparts in the House in announcing that they, quote, “see no indications that Trump Tower was the subject of surveillance by any element of the United States government either before or after Election Day 2016.”
