The Skull Defekts are one of those bands who people mistake for being American and then when they find out that they’re actually from Sweden everyone’s like “ahh yes, that’s why they’re so dark and cool”. Since a few years back however, The Skull Defekts have gone from a four to a five-piece band with Daniel Higgs from Baltimore’s Lungfish teaming up as a third frontman. Regardless of where they’re from their music is pretty universal as it has that interesting simplicity to it that makes you want to put it on loop. We’ve ranted about that loop thing before when they premiered their video for “Awaking Dream” a few weeks ago. But seriously. The Skull Defekts are ideal in every possible way when it comes to put things on loop.
Ever since they formed in 2005 as an underground noise project they’ve managed to make sounds and riffs that are so pleasing to your eardrums that you’ll never want it to end. Thankfully, it’s never really been silent around the band since their most recent album Peer Amid, although it was released in 2011 (they do a lot of gigs). And considering that April sees their long-awaited-for third album as a five-piece band, Dances in Dreams of the Known Unknown (that title should be enough for you to start listening to them if you haven’t already), looping won’t be an issue ever again.

We got hold of the premiere of “The Known Unknown” from the above album and spoke with singer and another of the frontmen, Daniel “Fagge” Fagerström, about this song, so you know, you won’t have to think too much about the unknown.

The Skull Defekts’ latest album, Dances in Dreams of the Known Unknown, will be released in April 2014 on Thrill Jockey Records. The Skull Defekts will be touring the US between April 29th and May 5th.
